Applications are made using your WVSAM account from April 15th through June 1st for the subsequent academic year. If you do not have a *WVSAM account, you must create one. Visit the WVSAM Page for help creating an account.

Applicants should review the How It Works section to review eligibility requirements for the kind of scholarship they plan to apply for.  

Applicants can review the service obligation requirements for the program on the Service Obligations section.  

Do I have to apply each year to get an award? 

• Yes. Awards are NOT renewable. To be considered for an award in another award year, you must apply during the open award cycle.
• Be advised that receiving multiple awards means you will have multiple service obligations after you graduate.  

When will I hear back about an award decision? 

• Initial award decisions are sent out in July. If you are not yet eligible for an award but will be eligible later on in the award year, you will be notified after reaching your nursing midpoint date.  

Do I need to send you my transcripts? 

• No. Academic records are securely provided by your school at the request of our program. You DO NOT need to request these records be sent to us. We have contacts at each program around the state and will have that information provided to us in a secure manner that protects your personally identifiable information (PII).  

How are award decisions sent out? 

• Award letters are sent out via email and/or text message if you have provided a cellphone number. 
• Denial emails and notifications that you will be eligible later on in the award year are sent out via email.  

Does being notified I was awarded mean I am automatically under the service obligation terms? 

• No. If you are extended an award offer, you will be required to sign a promissory note before you are under the service obligation terms. If you choose not to sign the promissory note by the deadline date you will automatically be considered as declining the award and the award will be cancelled.
