Second Chance Promise Renewal Request

Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, Promise Scholars who have lost eligibility due to non-renewal may regain eligibility for the Promise Scholarship through the Second Chance Promise Renewal process. This allows scholars, who did not meet renewal during the previous academic year, to renew the award after obtaining the renewal requirements. Promise Scholars may only utilize this process once to regain eligibility. This request is only available to scholars who received funds in the 2023-2024 academic year and after.

When To Make Request

Once the academic shortfall has been met, you may request the institutional financial aid office review eligibility for renewal under Second Chance Promise Renewal. The request should be made at the conclusion of the term(s) during which you accumulated the remaining required credit(s) and gpa required for renewal. Both the credit hour and gpa requirements must be obtained to regain the award.

Each term used to meet renewal will count as one semester of scholarship utilization. Click here to see Scholarship Duration limitations for utilizing the Promise Scholarship.

Examples

If a scholar completed 15 hours in Fall 2023 and 14 hours in Spring 2024, 1 more credit hour must be completed to achieve the 30 hours required for renewal and maintain a 2.75 overall gpa. If 1 or more credit hours are completed in Fall 2024, the request should be made after the Fall 2024 term has concluded. If the request is approved, the Fall 2024 term counts as a semester of utilization.

If a scholar completed 12 hours in Fall 2023 and 13 hours in Spring 2024 and finished the 2023-2024 academic year with a 2.7 gpa, 5 more credit hours must be completed to achieve the 30 hours required for renewal and the overall gpa needs to increase to a 2.75 overall gpa. If 5 or more credit hours are completed in Fall 2024 and the overall is at least 2.75, the request should be made after the Fall 2024 term has concluded. If 5 or more credit hours are completed in Fall 2024 but the overall is still below 2.75, the scholar may continue to enroll until the overall gpa reaches at least a 2.75. After the term that is achieved, the request should be made; if approved, every semester used to meet the renewal criteria will count as a semester of utilization.
