The West Virginia Higher Education Grant is a need-based financial aid program to ensure West Virginia students are given an opportunity to pursue post-secondary education.

How to Apply for the WV Higher Education Grant

For the 2025-2026 award year, submit a completed 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the April 15, 2025, deadline.

Complete the FAFSA!

After you have completed the FAFSA, if you do not have a WVSAM Account, you may create one to monitor your WVHEG eligibility and award information. After creating the account, you will be sent an email (may be in your junk/spam) with a link to create your password, then log in.

Award notifications for the West Virginia Higher Education Grant are sent to eligible high school students beginning in mid-May and to all other students in June to the email account listed on the FAFSA.
